The event changes the question you need to answer
Rescue care and treatment discontinuation can affect how an outcome is interpreted. This fictional trial follows patients after those events, so you can separate the event itself from a missing measurement.
Explore treatment policy, hypothetical, composite, while-on-treatment and principal-stratum strategies. Each specifies a different target for the comparison: the care conditions, outcome, time window or population can change. Simply dropping patients after an event can introduce selection into the comparison.
